Hi! Welcome to my post. While buying leather this time I decided to go out of my comfort zone. Way out of my comfort zone and bought some neon lamb skin hides for making books.
This is a radical departure from the some what staid and subdued colours I usually prefer. I'm glad I did. It gave me the opportunity to discover new colour combinations. The new colour enviroment encouraged me to try out new ways of marking out books for the sewing holes which worked beautifully. I used graph paper to make straighter stitches and sewing holes.
I also experimented with making upcyled pencil cases from mailing tubes.
Sometimes it's easy as a bookbinder to get stuck making the books you think people want to buy. I went all out creative on these books and I've been getting lots of compliments on them, even from other bookbinders.
I encourage everyone to draw outside the lines once in awhile. You never know what you'll discover about yourself.
So I guess it's true what they say, "A change is better than a rest."
